Conformers, the process begins…
Faith went to the ocularist today and got her first set of conformers. The ocularist worked for quite awhile until he got the conformers to fit on both sides. Her openings are very small so it was a bit challenging. The ocularist had to use the pegs otherwise it would be really tough to get them back out in the future. Faith was tough and did a great job. However, she did scream the worst I probably have ever heard out of her. It was a little tough for me to watch her go through this but I know it is necessary. As the ocularist said, putting in the conformers is not painful it just feels a bit weird and she has no idea what is going on so she gets upset. The pacifier helped a little bit to soothe her! Normally, the conformers are changed about once a month but it can vary depending on how quickly things expand.
Here is a photo of Faith with her confomers:

As always, keeping the faith!

Wow! I’m so glad she is able to wear them and you don’t have to deal with the stress of surgery right now. I wish every day that Kale could have worn conformers…but it’s just not the plan for him just yet.
Faith is a doll!!! (((Hugs)))

I read your story on ABC news and was really touched. My daughter was born at 26 weeks and is legally blind and the visits to the eye doctor are my least favorite!! pray that you and your family continue to have great support. These are the hardest times, but I can tell by the name you gave that special little girl that you have the one thing needed to make it through – Faith! Good luck to you on this journey!

I saw the article on ABC news and it brought back a ton of memories. . . and seeing Faith with her first set of conformers did too! I have a 16 year old who started with his first set of conformers when he was about 6 weeks old. Best of luck to you all. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line. Michael

First, your daughter is beautiful. Second, she is a delightful gift from God. Third, you are blessed. I know that you KNOW all of this.
Four years ago this month our adoption of 2 year old Darcy Renee was final. She was born with two birth defects, one of which was micropthalmia. Darcy wore a conformer until she was 2 1/2 and now has a beautiful prosthesis (with all of the proper eye parts and coloring! At first, it was either clear or solid white). She has vision in her other eye or as my elememtary-aged children say “in her working eye.” She has never EVER had her prosthesis removed without it being a huge ordeal for her. But as soon as it’s in or out she’s over it. Our Darcy is one of our great treasures. Like you, we are thankful for her daily whatever her challenges may be.
Just think–The first thing your Faith will see when she gets to heaven will be Jesus.
Very warmly.
